Rock Island Kiwanis Club
Kiwanews Kronicle
March 24, 2008 Meeting

Jonathan Turner.jpg (170460 bytes)

OPENING ACT

President Steve Schroder called the meeting to order. Music was again furnished by Jonathan Turner and the Kiwanis Mike Bell Choir. Vocally-challenged Adam Bain led the group singing.

John Califf thanked all of those who participated in the Annawan Interclub visit and encouraged all interested and able to attend the next Interclub in Geneseo April 22.

The first edition of the Kiwanis e-mail Kronicle brought rave reviews to our Club IT Committee, Daryl "E-Mail" Empen.

A slight snag was identified in our Club NCAA pool in that whoever drew Wisconsin didn’t sign their name on the bracket board. If you can produce the slip of paper with Wisconsin’s name on it and can have your position supported by affidavit sworn to by a pastor, priest and rabbi, and can get beyond the fingerprint and DNA test, you may have a chance.

Denise Ormsby reminded us of Rose Day coming up in April and encouraged all to participate.

President Steve next presented Legion of Honor awards: To Dick Timmer in recognition of 40 years of membership; and in a special ceremony, to John Bromley’s wife, Lorraine, and Liz for and in recognition of longtime member and past President John Bromley’s 35 years of membership.

Liz reminded us of the NAMI kickoff luncheon this Saturday and the walk to be held May 3.

Dick Fislar expressed his remorse in not being able to attend meetings for the next two weeks due to pressing business in eastern Europe.

In Fun and Fellowship, Steve Andich won the preliminary prize, which he graciously donated back to the Club. The Kartel won the opportunity for the grand prize which past President, Dick Fislar, in a parting shot, managed to lose.
