OPENING ACT

President Dick Fislar made it two weeks in a row to guide our meeting.

One announcement concerned the fact that our Lieutenant Governor has spent some time in the hospital following the International Convention in San Antonio.   We all wish him well and a speedy, full recovery.

John Califf was back in town following his quality control trip at various potato distilleries in Russia.  He was able to resolve that nagging question of the Moline Interclub by announcing that, in fact, it was to be held Tuesday, July 24, or several days before you get this newsletter.  He stated that the next Grand Interclub will be the Kiwanis Supersize Meeting August 21 at The Lodge. 

Demonstrating the membership’s abiding strength and ability to maneuver quickly, sign-up sheets for working the softball tournament on July 27 – 29 were handed out at the meeting.  If you didn’t get a chance to sign up, don’t feel like the Lone Ranger.  At the same time, do remember that your telephone number is posted on the reverse side of this newsletter.

Dick reminded us that the Club’s effort at reinstituting Pancake Day will be held October 28.  In honor of the occasion, Dick talked as if we would be bringing back some vintage pancake batter.

MEMBERSHIP!!!

The Club welcomed an Interclub from Kewanee, several of whom apparently were responsible for making Mark Hepner what he is today.

The highlight of the Happy and Sad Dollar presentations was Adam Bain, who completed a triathlon over the weekend and still had the energy to propose to the lovely young lady of his dreams.

Expect to receive more information from Marla Andich on the American Cancer Society Survivor reception to be held at the Tri-City Jewish Center.

Dick repeated his thanks to those who helped at the Kiwanis 5K this past Saturday.

 We were delighted to welcome a new member to the Club, a function President Dick was so enthused about, he forgot to give her name.  Rumor has it that if you’d like to meet her on her own turf, pay a visit to the Moline airport.

 In case any of you have been trying unsuccessfully to reach Harold Campbell by telephone, his number is 755-8556.  Bob Stecker should get this change printed in this newsletter, but if you’ve missed talking with Harold, I’m sure he would be delighted to hear from any and all of us anytime, day or night.
