November 26, 2007 Meeting

Past President Dick Fislar.jpg (204586 bytes)

OPENING ACT

The meeting was opened by President Steve Schroder. Considering how difficult a time we have singing a cappella, we were delighted again to have Jonathan Turner and the Kiwanis Wind Ensemble in our midst.

As was the case last week, announcements were plentiful. On Interclubs, John Califf reminded us of the Davenport Club’s holiday Tom & Jerry Party and Breathalyzer Challenge on December 20.

Dave Umphrey reminded us of the activity we have at St. Anthony’s December 4. Please call Dave for more details. He also informed us that this Saturday will be our annual Salvation Army bell-ringing at the Walgreen’s store on 18th Avenue in Rock Island.

Michelle Youngquist reminded us that next Wednesday would be the Coats for Kids activity. Since, as we all know, Michelle is expecting, calling her if you have questions anytime at home, day or night, would probably help get her aligned for when the next little Youngquist arrives.

President Steve reminded us of the Martin Luther King holiday activities which will include wrapping gifts at 9:00 a.m. on December 8 and distributing them at the party between 5:00 and 7:30 p.m. on December 12.

President Steve extended the appreciation of the Club to immediate past President Dick Fislar for his performance during the past year.

Guests included various representatives from the Alleman High School Key Club.

Happy/Sad Dollars apparently found Club members with a few extra bucks that hadn’t been spent on Friday morning, doorbuster, post-Thanksgiving sales. A variety of celebrations, congratulations and bold-faced plugs were some of the featured attractions.

In Fun and Fellowship, Paul Lamoureux won the preliminary drawing, which he graciously donated back to the Club. The chance at the grand prize was won by Dick Timmer, who adroitly tiptoed through the minefield of Mike Bell’s games of chance and won the grand prize.

Finally, we were all delighted to participate in the induction of our new members, Bill, Brian and Sharon. Introduce yourselves the next chance you get and make these new members feel welcome. Remember, you were a new member once, also.

THE FEATURE ATTRACTION

The program was given by Steve Smithers, boy’s varsity basketball coach at Alleman High School, who gave a previous of the Pioneer season, a post-mortem on the team’s Thanksgiving week games, and an outlook for the 2007/2008 year.

FUTURE ATTRACTIONS

Dec. 3 Deb Dunkase and Fran Jenson,
Iowa Children’s Museum

Dec. 10 Sharon Towner, Black Hawk College
Optional Education Program

Dec. 17 Bad Gift Exchange

Dec. 24 & 31 No meeting

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
