November 1, 2007 Meeting

Duncan Reid.jpg (150475 bytes)

OPENING ACT

President Steve Schroder again conducted the meeting. He led our welcome back to Mark Amacher. Duncan Reid reported on Darryl Townsend, who has been benefiting from the wonders of modern medicine. It was announced that Mike Bell also mis-stepped in performing his Flying Karamazov Brothers act and is also mending.

We wished Tom Plechaty well on his 70th birthday following his marathon performance at the Elks Club Sunday for Pancake Day.

Speaking of pancakes, (and who wouldn’t?) Adam Bain gave us a preliminary report. He recognized several of the key workers on this year’s project, including John Califf, Liz Berridge, Lee Schenck, Chad Ervin, Denise Ormsby, Tom Ketelaar, Alicia Shuman and Tom Plechaty. He also announced that the preliminary results show receipts of approximately $3,500.

In conjunction with next week’s meeting, Tom Stontz requested that all members bring some non-perishable food items for the local student food drive in which our Key Clubs at Rock Island High School and Alleman High School are participating.

John Califf reminded us of the Governor’s visit this Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at The Abbey. As an added incentive, the Club will be paying for luncheon for all members who wish to attend.

Showing his versatility, Tom Plechaty made another pitch for the cheese and sausage sales.

Guests included prospective members from KJWW brought by Liz Berridge, an Interclub from Bettendorf, and representatives of the Alleman High School and Rock Island High School Key Clubs.

In Fun and Fellowship, Les Bohnert won the preliminary prize, which he graciously returned to the Club treasury. Grand prize eligibility was won by Tom Ketelaar, who managed to talk President Steve into declaring him the winner of the grand prize so that it could be donated to the Pancake Day receipts.

THE FEATURE ATTRACTION

We were entertained by the Rock Island High School Jazz Band.
