October 15, 2007 Meeting

Tom Plechaty and Gary Camp made their first announcement on the annual cheese and salami sales.jpg (169438 bytes)

OPENING ACT

President Steve Schroder called the meeting to order. He began by giving an announcement on Mark Amacher, who underwent double bypass surgery over a week ago. Apparently, Mark is convalescing well and looking forward to making some money for the Kartel as soon as possible.

Adam Bain gave us an update on Pancake Day.

John Califf informed us that there will be a special Interclub November 3 at The Abbey in Davenport from 11:30 to 2:00 for the Governor’s visit. There will also be another Interclub in Kewanee sometime in November. He also informed us that he apparently has a full house to attend the October Interclub with the Moline Club, so if you were counting on doing something else that day, whatever it is, go ahead.

The Club is again exploring sending this newsletter our by e-mail. This will significantly reduce costs to the Club and will force some of us to find alternative sources of materials to line birdcages.

Dave Umphrey told us that on October 25 from 5:00 – 8:30, the Rock Island Park District is sponsoring a Fright Night in The District. If you’d like to participate in helping or would like to dress up and scare the ever-loving liver out of a bunch of kids, contact Dave.

Tom Plechaty and Gary Camp made their first announcement on the annual cheese and salami sales. It’s never too early to stock up on comfort food for the winter, so get your orders in to these gentlemen.

A presentation was made by John McEvoy by the Rock Island girls softball organization to the Club in recognition of the Club’s sponsoring a team that saved its energy during the regular season in order to win the tournament.

The Happy and Sad Dollars segment featured a duet by Liz and Lee who, in this high-tech age, know how to put the arm on us to help for Pancake Day in any one of about four different ways.

In Fun and Fellowship, the Kartel won the preliminary prize, while Jim Ash won the opportunity to lose every nickel of the grand prize.

THE FEATURE ATTRACTION

Beth Carvey Stewart gave a presentation on the Black Hawk State Historic Site, sometimes also known as Black Hawk State Park. She provided us with a very interesting slide show giving a historical perspective not only on the Site itself as it was used over the last 100 or so years, but also plans the State has for enhanced use of the park.

FUTURE ATTRACTIONS

Oct. 22 Senator Mike Jacobs

Oct. 29 Rock Island High School Jazz Band
