October 21, 2007 Meeting

John Califf - Mike Bell - Senator Mike Jacobs.jpg (206701 bytes)

OPENING ACT

President Steve Schroder called the meeting to order. Our own Pancake Mavens were the featured songleaders for the last time before Pancake Day.

Word has it that Dale Grabau is mending after suffering a pulled hamstring. Apparently, he bolted out of his La-Z-Boy when he found out that Joe Torre had passed up another opportunity to work for George Steinbrenner.

By the time you get this newsletter, you will either have attended with John Califf or missed entirely the Interclub with the Moline Club at its meeting place which John identified as Christ the King Lutheran Church.

We got another head’s up on the annual visit by the Governor to our District for Division 16 and 17. The event is Saturday, November 3 at The Abbey in Bettendorf. All are encouraged to attend this special event.

Bill Nelson reminded us of Fright Night, which you might also miss by the time you get this newsletter. Judges are needed for this District event from 4:30 to 7:00, and I’m sure that our resident Judges, Alan Blackwood and Joe Beatty, have already been approached.

Daryl Empen reminded us to let the Board know if we would prefer to receive the newsletter by e-mail.

Guests and prospective members from Missman-Stanley were again introduced by Liz Berridge. Representatives of the Moline and East Moline/Silvis Clubs were also in attendance. On a younger note, we also welcomed representative members of the Alleman High School Key Club.

The Happy/Sad Dollars segment resulted in an excellent shakedown by Vice President Denise Ormsby and included an announcement by Heath Treharne that it was National Nut Day.

In Fun and Fellowship, the Kartel won the preliminary prize, receiving a $6 return on its $8 investment. The grand prize was won by Char Dahl, who won the jackpot drawing made by Senator Mike Jacobs, our program presenter for the day. The Senator was assured that our little game was not of the pay-to-play variety.

THE FEATURE ATTRACTION

Your Editor had to make a quick press run and, consequently, was unable to report on the program. However, it was given by State Senator Mike Jacobs, who has been a strong and worthy advocate for the local area in his work in Springfield.

FUTURE ATTRACTIONS

Oct. 29 Rock Island High School Jazz Band

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
