THE OPENING ACT

President Steve Schroeder brought the meeting to order. Our musical interlude was led by Daryl Empen and Pres. Schroeder also filled in as the invocator.

V.P. Denise Ormsby counted heads and came up with 55 members and 6 guests.

Former President Dick Fislar asked that those who received his letter, please fill out the required membership profile so that he can complete the updated membership directory.

John Califf had a couple of announcements. A new process is in place to review grant applications and these applications are due by July 11th for the next distribution.

John also took the opportunity to thank those that attended the Atkinson Interclub and participated in the Rolle Bolle games. A good time was had by all.

And finally, the July Interclub will take place in Bettendorf on the 15th. That will be an out of our division, out of state and out of control trip?

Gene Smith has reached the begging and pleading stage of our participation in the Birdies for Charity. We are at about the $1.40 mark and sneaking up on last years
$1.57 mark.

Hixson Award nominees will be accepted through
July 7th.

Please keep August 1,2 & 3 open on your calendar for the annual Softball Tournament. There is also the potential for a fourth day beginning on July 31st depending on the number of teams registered.

We were able to distribute the following gifts after many hours of selling roses, hawking peanuts, etc....

$300 to the Safer Foundation for the Rock Island Youth Empowerment Program.

$100 for the Child Abuse Council and their New Parent Services.

$500 to Churches United to help with their "Fun Night" for families.

$400 to help Augustana Circle K members to attend the International Convention.

$1,000 to Eugene Field Elementary School for additional playground equipment.

Mike Bell was on hand for Fun & Fellowship. The Cartel won the first drawing for $6 and also the opportunity
at $22.

THE FEATURE ATTRACTION

Tom Stontz introduced the sixth year director of the John Deere Classic, Claire Peterson. Claire gave an overview of the tournament and talked about some of the

players who have committed to play. Only 37 cities have a PGA Tournament event and this community continually gets positive review in particular because of the

charity dollars. In 2007 the John Deere Classic came in 5th out of the 37. Last year alone, $4.6 million was given to over 600 charities which includes up to 10% that was added from tournament profits. Their mission continues to be to improve the quality of life in the Quad Cities and promote volunteerism.

FUTURE ATTRACTIONS

July 7 Jack Carey,
former QC radio personality

July 14 Dale Whiteside, storyteller/folk musician

July 21 Darren Good,
Insects of Mississippi River Region
