July 9, 2007 Meeting

OPENING ACT

Dick Fislar was back from the International Convention in San Antonio and presided over our weekly meeting with renewed vim, vigor and vitality.

Attendance was a bit leaner than usual and, no doubt, attributable to the Division Golf Outing and the sizable group of Club members who joined our team to cheer them on. It was also REALLY hot.

The announcements brought to the attention of the Club were also sparse. Our next Interclub will be with the Moline Club. Dick seemed somewhat disoriented in trying to remember when this was to occur, so I’d suggest you check out last week’s newsletter and, hopefully, your Editor got it right last week.

Dick also gave us an excellent review and report of the San Antonio meetings, citing numerous awards, presentations, and general impressions of the gathering. Foremost of the matters brought up to us was membership.

The golfers must have absconded with the birthday cake, so Dick suggested we celebrate our July birthdays next week.

There were numerous Happy and Sad Dollars. Gary Johnson won a whopping preliminary Fun and Fellowship prize, which he graciously turned over to the Club, enabling the Club to be able to cover coffee for Dick and his wife. Speaking of Dick, he hadn’t lost his old magic and claimed the right to compete for the grand prize of a whopping $3, which he managed to lose.

THE FEATURE ATTRACTION

The program was presented by Laura Lortz of Big Brothers/Big Sisters. We received an excellent presentation focused on BBBS QC’s focus on mentoring by adults for children who have demonstrated the need for improvement in self-confidence, competency, and communication. BBBS QC has three mentoring programs in the Quad Cities, including a school-based program, a community-based program, and a campus program. The school-based program develops children between the ages of six and 12.

FUTURE ATTRACTIONS

Moline Centre Partners

July 23

July 30
