OPENING ACT

Vice President Steve Schroder called the meeting to order in the absence of our globe-trotting President, Dick Fislar. Rumor has it that he’s in the South Pacific searching for our pancake griddle.

Following Steve’s lead, there were oodles of announcements, many of which were presented by committee substitutes. Daryl Empen stood in for Denise Ormsby in reminding us that Rose Day is April 25 and by next Monday, it would be nice of us to pick up our tickets, make our lists, check them twice, and bring in our money.

Al Beck stood in for John Califf and reminded us of the Geneseo Interclub which you will have missed if you waited until this newsletter to find out when that was to occur. Rumor has it that John is out of town checking on a location for another Interclub. He didn’t give any hints as to where this might be, but my guess is that payment for the meal can be made in brightly-colored beads.

Adam Bain reminded us that there is a study committee looking at the possibility of reinstituting Pancake Day. If you have any thoughts or can give some intelligent, experienced input to this group, please contact Adam.

Bob VanDeVoorde stood in for Lee Schenck and gave the third and final reading of the committee’s nominations for next year’s officers. These are Steve Schroder, President; Denise Ormsby, First Vice President; Adam Bain, Second Vice President; Marla Andich, Al Beck and Heath Treharne, Directors for three-year terms; Tom Stontz, Joe Robb and David Umphrey, Directors for two-year terms; and John Califf, Michelle Youngquist, Julie Larson and Tom Plechaty, Directors for one-year terms.

Dave Umphrey reminded us of the Administrative Professionals Week Appreciation Luncheon being hosted by Bethany for Children Families on Friday, April 20 at Circa 21. A lot of work and thought is put into this event, and it looks like it should be a lot of fun.

Bill Nelson brought to the attention of the group the Parks and Recreation Department’s Day Tripper Program going on over the school district’s spring break, as well as the annual egg hunt at 9:30 on Saturday, March 31 at Lincoln Park. Our help would be appreciated earlier that day to hide the eggs.

Liz Berridge gave us another reminder requesting our participation in the NAMI walk on May 5.

Guests included representatives of the Alleman Key Club.

THE FEATURE ATTRACTION

The program consisted of Bill Nelson cracking the whip for our assistance in Easter egg stuffing.

Special Note

Kermit Schroder was a very special person in many ways, but chief among them must be how his enthusiasm for Kiwanis and active membership literally crossed generational boundaries. I am in awe when I look at our membership roster and see that Kermit served as President of our Club in 1951, before some of our current members were born, when some of us were either infants or in grade school, and pre-dating the years of service by other past Presidents whom few current Club members can even remember. Perhaps our best tribute to Kermit would be to reaffirm our commitment to the Club, "When Kiwanis calls."
