OPENING ACT

President Dick Fislar called the meeting to order and, true to his word, the meeting set off at a brisk pace. As an example, while our intrepid Secretary, Mike Bell, was still going through the buffet line, Dick called on him for the Fun and Fellowship segment. Since virtually everyone, including your Editor, was also still eating, I missed who won the preliminary prize. I think Char Dahl won the shot at the grand prize, but I think she lost.

Our next item was our Happy/Sad Dollars segment. This included a variety of statements, but I seem to remember that Liz Berridge said something about members of the Circle K Clubs of St. Ambrose and Augustana going to Tanzania. You might want to check with John Califf to see if this was for the purpose of scouting out Interclub visit sites.

Speaking of John Califf, representatives of the Atkinson Club were present for an Interclub. John seized on the opportunity to inform us that the Interclub at Atkinson will occur on June 13. I have trouble reading my notes, but I think the fittings are supposed to be next Monday for our team uniforms. Show up early if you want to get the right size of kilts, tank tops and steel-toed shoes.

Gene Smith reminded us of Birdies and, interestingly, Dick next discussed our Club’s participation in the downtown Rock Island clean-up activities.

Dick next made financial presentations to a variety of worthy causes on behalf of the Club. These groups included Rock Island Striders, Longfellow Lionesses, the Child Abuse Council, St. Ambrose Circle K, Make-A-Wish, Boys and Girls Club, Jordan Booster Club, and Salvation Army for its Mittens for Kids and carbon monoxide detector programs.

This was followed by a few brief words from our Division Lieutenant Governor.

THE FEATURE ATTRACTION

A substitute program was very ably and professional given on the Quad City Botanical Center. We were informed that it, like many organizations, is continuing to attempt to boost its membership. We were also informed as to the benefits of membership, special events, and the educational programs afforded by this organization.
