November 3, 2008 Meeting

THE OPENING ACT

President Denise Ormsby called the meeting to order. Jonathan Turner provided the music along with his Shady Oaks Sidekicks.

Steve Schroder reminded all of us about the current food drive and reminded us to either make our financial contributions or bring food stocks.

We were again reminded of Pancake Day coming up November 9. To sign up, please check with Tom Ketelaar.

Tom Plechaty took his seasonal position in the back of the room from whence he reminded us of the Club cheese drive. Even if you don’t want to order some cheese, come on back and chat with Tom. He gets lonely back there with his limburger.

President Ormsby reminded us of the Governor’s visit December 13. More details will follow. She also got all attendees excited over the prospect of the Club Bad Gift Exchange. Before you take that little piece o’heaven down to the town dump, stop a moment and think of how much it would be appreciated by one of your fellow Club members.

Guests included members of both the Alleman High School Key Club and Rock Island High School Key Club, who were chaperoned by their principal, Robert Mason.

Joe Robb announced that the next Interclub gathering would be November 25 in Geneseo at 6:30 p.m. Please contact either Joe or Tom Hanson if you’d be interested in attending and need a ride. Remember, you probably can’t be safer than when riding with retired Lutheran ministers.

In Fun and Fellowship, Mike Swartz won the preliminary prize, which he graciously donated back to the Club. For the grand prize, Daryl Townsend won the opportunity to compete and managed to make it to the second tier of prizes before Mike Bell had a chance to throw him off course. Rumor has it that Daryl wanted to split his winnings with the Club.

THE FEATURE ATTRACTION

The program was presented by Sarah Johnson, Student Food Drive Executive Director. Sarah provided the membership with some background on the Food Drive and concluded with a very nicely-done video. The objective of the Student Food Drive is found in its mission statement, "to unite and empower area high school students in the commitment to feed the hungry and promote volunteerism." The Drive organization attempts to engage students in this program and to provide students with the tools of exercising leadership and participation in a charitable cause.

FUTURE ATTRACTIONS

November 10th Grey Giovanine, Augustana College men’s basketball coach

Nov. 17 Thom Sigel,
Rock Island High School
basketball coach

Nov. 24 Steve Smithers,
Alleman High School basketball coach
