Rock Island Kiwanis Club
President Steve Schroder called our July 7 meeting to order. Jonathan Turner was back in town to lead the Kiwanis Glockenspiel Hootenanny. A card was circulated to extend our best wishes to Milt Hedquist, whose cheerful greeting has been sorely missed as of late. Steve informed us that the traditional Kiwanis 5K Run/Walk/Stagger has been rescheduled for October 18. John Califf informed us that the next Interclub will be held July 23 at noon with the Bettendorf Club. Let John know if youd like to join him so that he can make sure that all passports are in order and the appropriate currency is exchanged. President Steve informed us that a raffle is being conducted in conjunction with the District Convention to be held August 7 through 10. Im sure well be getting more details in the following weeks. President Steve also gave us a final solicitation for Hixson Award nominations. If you have someone in mind, please furnish Steve with that name no later than Tuesday morning, July 8. Guests included a group from the Rock Island Golden K Club. Happy and Sad Dollars included a few reminiscing dollars about longtime Club member, Jim Burke, who passed away last week. In our Fun and Fellowship segment, Paul Lamoureux won the preliminary prize, which he graciously donated back to the Club. Char Dahl won the opportunity to go for the grand prize, which she also ended up donating to the Club, although not by design. THE FEATURE ATTRACTION The program was given by longtime Quad Cities personality, Jack Carey. Always an excellent speaker, Jack revisited some events from his past, both before and after he arrived in the Quad Cities, and also gave us an excellent perspective of his current work in his mens ministry. Along the way, he shared his personal philosophies of life and religious convictions.
